Teichert Family Update ... Coming Alongside Inspiring West African Servants

The family of Karl and Jenny Teichert are serving the Lord as missionaries with OC Africa, in South Africa. They moved to Johannesburg in November, 1997 with their four children; Ann, Scott, Stephen and John. Karl serves as the Southern Africa Director of the Southern Africa Regional Team. Their vision is to see a healthy, Bible-based church established in every unreached village and community in South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia and beyond. Their strategy is to partner with key African church leaders to research, train, and mobilize the body of Christ to complete the Great Commission. They are striving to equip local leaders in Southern Africa to reach their nations for Christ and send missionaries into other countries as well.

Coming Alongside Inspiring West African Servants

Dear Family and Friends,

In March, Karl had an incredible opportunity to visit three West African leaders with Jon Lewis, a fellow One Challenge colleague. The purpose of the trip was to build relationships with strategic kingdom-minded leaders, discover ways to encourage and empower them, and facilitate leadership coaching training.

Jon has lived and worked in Africa for over 30 years with Mission Aviation Fellowship, Partners International, and Wycliffe Associates. Jon is fluent in Portuguese, French, and English and is extremely knowledgeable about African culture and mission needs.

Here is a highlight of each of the key servant leaders we were able to come alongside:

Rene Mbongo; Dakar, Senegal – Rene serves as the West Africa Director for Partners International. He develops relationships with local leaders to help them reach the people in their area. The majority of people in West Africa are Muslim. Dakar is a growing strategic location to provide training and mobilize mission in Senegal and all of West Africa.
Please pray for Rene as he assists many emerging leaders in evangelizing and discipling the people in their region.

Miguel Indibe; Bissau, Guinea-Bissau – Miguel is passionate about translating the Bible into every language group in his country. He leads ETA, which coordinates various Bible translation projects. As a result of our discussion with his staff, we are looking into using local Hot Spot technology where people can access the scriptures and other discipleship material through their cell phones.
Please pray for Miguel and his team as they effectively translate the Bible and make it available for every person.

Modou Camara; Banjul, Gambia – Modou is a former Muslim and went to an Islamic school to study the Koran to convert Christians to Islam. During his studies, he started reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Despite the warnings of his friends, he began to question the beliefs of the Koran and felt drawn to the truth of the Bible. He eventually believed the claims of Jesus and decided to follow Him. Modou and his wife started the House of Wisdom as a Christian fellowship in the Muslim community where local people could worship God and learn about the Bible. The appearance and format of the service is non-threatening to someone seeking Jesus. The ministry also provides water and runs a sewing business for the community. House of Wisdom is a model and training environment for those called and sent out to disciple the unreached peoples of West Africa.
Please pray for Modou and his ministry as they reach out to local people for Christ and equip workers into missions among Muslims.

There was a very positive response from these leaders and others who participated in our leader development training. Each has invited Jon and Karl to provide additional training and coaching in the future.

We are sincerely grateful for the growing relationships with these humble visionary leaders.

Please pray for Karl and Jon as they discern how to best continue to come alongside and serve these and other leaders in God’s new mission movement in West Africa.

Thank you for journeying with us for His glory,

Karl and Jenny
