MIDLAND, TEXAS - Karl Boroski told the Reporter-Telegram that Rope Youth could use more volunteers to provide support to students without fathers inside schools across Midland. Boroski said the “Young Gentlemen’s Club” has been started to make an impact on students by providing some basics for those in grades four through six.
Those basics include learning to be respectful and knowing how to accomplish tasks like changing a tire, ironing a shirt, tying a tie and public speaking.
He talked about needing more volunteers who go into schools and work with as many as 12 students. Young Gentlemen’s Club students are provided new suits and skills to use moving forward.
“These kids are looking good and feeling good,” Boroski told the Reporter-Telegram. “That is an old saying but it really works.”
The program is for students in the fourth through sixth grades. Boroski also said Young Gentlemen’s Club can be found on five or six campuses. Expanding the program, he said, can’t happen until resources and volunteers are in place.
He explained that currently two or three people “mentor” 12 boys. He hopes that students not only learn things but that they are preparing for life as a junior high student. That includes knowing what peer groups to be part of and being there to support each other ... ...
