LUBBOCK, TEXAS - The Westwinds Brass Band of Lubbock is set to perform in two, free patriotic concerts this Independence Day weekend.
The band join the combined choirs of First United Methodist Church for their annual patriotic concert Friday evening at First United Methodist Church downtown.
The free concert, titled "God Shed His Grace on Thee A Patriotic Festival," will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the church at 1411 Broadway.
"Wave the flag, wear red, white and blue, and stay afterward for hot dogs and ice cream," reads an announcement from FUMC.
The Westwinds Brass Band, a Lubbock non-profit organization, will also play a variety of patriotic American songs and marches during its Independence Day weekend "Concert in the Park" at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at Wagner Park near 26th Street and Elgin Avenue, said director James Nance.
The weekly concerts in the park are an annual tradition of the Westwinds Brass Band, which plays the free shows at 8 p.m. on Sundays in June and July in the Wagner Park gazebo. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, picnic blankets, water and bug spray, and children often play at the nearby playground during the perfomance.
