ODESSA, TEXAS - Being stuck in a hospital bed makes attending church impossible for many Catholics, but the Catholic churches in Odessa are able to bring at least a portion of the Mass to those staying in the hospital. Each parish in Odessa has a group of trained Eucharistic ministers who visit patients in Medical Center Hospital on a different day of the workweek and offer Communion to people listed as Catholics on the hospital’s roster. In addition to Communion, the group offers prayer to members and even others who request it.
