ODESSA, TEXAS - The Ector County Independent School District officially removed the tradition of an invocation at the beginning and end of its high school graduation ceremonies. Many West Texas families spoke out against the changes.
The news comes after the threat of a lawsuit from a Washington, D.C. based organization called Americans for Separation of Church and State.
The superintendent said having invocation is against state law and school board policy, there's just no getting around it, but the new system may still allow students to pray and one valedictorian tells me no matter what happens, she's sharing the word with her peers.
