September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2021. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

HIDDEN TREASURES

"I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD.” - Isaiah 45:3

n the middle of a hot day in the middle of Malawi, with the wind whipping about me, I reflected how there was water beneath the surface of this dry and arid land. The Bible verse of riches stored in secret places came to mind. The water came from the well as clear and clean as could be and I marveled at what a gift this water was to the people of this village and each village I had visited this week. It was a source for cooking, bathing, drinking, and life.

God has hidden treasures for us all and we, like the villagers, need to seek these treasures. This water had been below the ground for generations and with the help of Marion Medical Mission this treasure was brought to the surface. As we give our dedications for the well, we give glory to God so that he may be known each time water is drawn from the wells.

Treasures in Africa which I will never forget were the joy of the people, the smiles, the community and the love they expressed for this gift. But all gifts are from the Father who gives freely.

I continue to seek hidden treasures. Today I will search for those treasures stored up for me. Perhaps the sunrise, or blooming flowers or a harvest from the garden, a smile from a stranger, the laughter of children, peace of mind amidst turmoil in the world, the opportunity to help those in need. But the greatest treasure we seek is that of the Father’s love and the great homecoming to be ours when our earthly struggles are past.

Application Question: Where will I look for hidden treasures today?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, open our eyes and hearts to those things You desire for us. Let us seek You fully, realize the value of the treasure You have given us and share it with others so Your name may be glorified. AMEN
