From @mmm_water ... 2023 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2023. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

IT ALL ADDS UP
Reverend David Fisher
Volunteer, Colorado

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” - Ecclesiastes 4:12

I once heard a Christian speaker and author in the United States say about the American culture, “We celebrate the hero over the citizen in America.” I have thought a lot over the years about that statement. I think it is true, yet also strange. While so much attention in American culture is given to heroes and people who do heroic deeds, it is the citizen who makes a country work. Citizens, common ordinary people who show up each day and do what needs to be done, is what a nation needs. Common ordinary disciples (you and me) are the people God uses to make good things happen through the church. Ordinary people willing to do simple work are the backbone of nations, churches and movements.

Marion Medical Mission has been doing the Christian disciple work of helping people get clean, protected drinking water for 38 years now. It is simple work. The wells are not that expensive (it’s a $450 hand pump well, not a $50,000 bore hole well!). The work is not that complicated. It is ordinary work for both the African workers and the American volunteers.

Yet, God has used that work over the last 38 years to install 50,000 wells that have helped hundreds of thousands of people have clean, protected drinking water!

God works through the ordinary. God uses the common disciple. God makes things add up!

Application Question: Where do you see God working in ordinary ways in your life?

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for using ordinary, common disciples like us to make big differences in peoples’ lives. Amen
