Invitation to Prayer: Wednesday

Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Our mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, we seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).

The Promised One, the Expected One, the Messiah

"We’ve heard that the people of the time
had certain ideas about the Promised One,
thought the Expected One would be born in a palace
or come down from Heaven on a cloud,
never expected the Messiah
would be sent as a baby to people like Mary and Joseph ...
Our question is this:
What is our expectation?
What promise do we hold to our hearts?
Who is this Messiah born to us?

Advent’s Alleluia to Easter’s Morning Light by Ann Weems

A message from Chris Laufer, Coordinator, Faces of Children

Greetings, Faces of Children Intercessor,

This Advent reflection, with Ann Weems’ probing questions, got me reflecting on my own ideas about the Promised One. How about you? What is your expectation? What promise do you hold to your heart? Who is this Messiah born to you?

The Midland Faces of Children prayer group will meet this coming Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. in the Bride’s room at First Presbyterian Church-Midland, as we lift in prayer the children of our hearts and communities. Please join us for prayer and, afterwards, for lunch ($5) and fellowship. I hope you will be able to join us.

This will be our last meeting in the Bride’s room for a while. First Presbyterian is starting an 18-month-long renovation project and we will start meeting in room 217 on January 8, 2014. There won’t be Faces of Children prayer meetings on December 25, 2013 or January 1, 2014 as the church will be closed for those holidays. So, starting Wednesday, January 8, 2014, we will meet in room 217. We’ll still have lunch available to us even after the move.

If you have prayer concerns or celebrations about children, those who care for them, those who have authority over them, or those who harm them (the really hard prayers to say sometimes), please send them to me at at claufer@facesofchildren.net, or give me a call.

Advent Blessings,

Chris
