EL PASO, TEXAS - Bobby Byrd was a young university professor in Memphis, Tennessee, when he attended the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s last speech April 3, 1968, at the Mason Temple church in Memphis.

Byrd had participated in several marches in support of striking sanitation workers and was excited for that evening.
