ODESSA/MIDLAND/SAN ANGELO, TEXAS - On Tuesday United Supermarkets launched their annual program, Turkey Bucks, in Midland, Odessa, San Angelo and parts of New Mexico.

Turkey Bucks is a program designed to help raise money for those dealing with food insecurity as the holiday season approaches.

From Nov. 1 to Nov. 14, guests will have the opportunity to make a donation at the register when they are finished shopping.

“We are so excited to once again kick off Turkey Bucks this holiday season,” John Jameson, regional vice president for the United Family, stated in the press release. “It means the world to us to be in a position to help families who are dealing with food insecurity during this time of the year. We encourage our guests to donate what they can.”

The donations will go to several food banks, food pantries and other charitable organizations across the region. This includes West Texas Food Bank, The Food Depot, St. James Episcopal, Storehouse New Mexico, El Ranchito de los NiƱos, Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico, and Food Bank of the Concho Valley. The money raised in a particular area will stay in that area.

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Westlake Ace Hardware in Midland and the Salvation Army are celebrating 10 years of fan drives. This year’s fan drive, in which donations are being accepted to purchase fans for those in need beat the summer heat, will last through June 19.

Donations can made at the local Westlake Ace Hardware, 1004 Andrews Highway, or online at westlakehardware.com/fan-drive. Westlake customers can also donate by rounding up their purchases at the register.

Since the Midland campaign kicked off 10 years ago, over $20,000 has been donated, equating to more than 1,300 fans given to those in need.

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -As your children begin creating their Valentine's Day cards, they can add one to the list and send it to a senior citizen.

Buckner Retirement Services is accepting Valentine's Day cards and letters for residents of its six senior living communities across Texas, including the Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo.

"Cards will also be accepted for Buckner employees to show appreciation for the frontline heroes serving senior adults throughout the pandemic," the release stated ...

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS - The Salvation Army in San Angelo announced new leadership on Friday, introducing Majors Angel and Valerie Calderon, according to a news release.

The Calderons previously served the past five years at the Pleasant Grove Community Center, where they ran Salvation Army programs. The couple originally met as youth leaders at their local Puerto Rico church, according to the release.

They became Salvation Army officers/pastors in 1999 and have since served in Odessa, Plano and several Florida cities ...
