ABILENE, TEXAS - A dove of peace on the door, soft lighting, and calming photos on the walls aren’t the images of a police department that usually come to mind.

The traditional images, blue-clad officers with weapons and handcuffs on their utility belt, a duty officer at the front desk, metal shelves and filing cases, are all there, too. But the unusual room in the basement of the Abilene Police Department’s side of the Abilene/Taylor County Law Enforcement Center is where officers, dispatchers and other employees of the department can find solace ...
