Partners Blog: “Forgotten Narratives”

Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma, and now in the Middle East, as well. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other conflict zones.

“Forgotten Narratives”

Imagine a dim room in a refugee camp on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Soft golden light from the setting sun breaks through cracks in the wall, illuminating a mat with a cup of sweetened coffee and bowl of rice. Rain falls into a tin bucket. It spills over into little streams that swirl and dance and gather towards the river that separates Thailand from Myanmar. On this side of the river, refugees from Myanmar watch the sun set behind the mountains of their old home. In this space, people who have become dear to me share their journeys of loss and fear. ...
