Sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa, Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read the following to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.
COVID CONCERNS
Due to concerns over Covid-19, MMM has reluctantly decided to cancel the participation of American volunteers this fall. However, 3,000 wells are NOT cancelled! Our African staff is capable & dedicated to clean water in Jesus' name! Please support them with love, prayers & donations! Together, we make the impossible possible!
What speaks to your heart?
"Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive
the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."
Mark 10:15
the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."
Mark 10:15
In the midst of a very hot day of installing wells, we approached a village with an unusually large number of children - kids were literally everywhere as we parked the truck. One young man excitedly grabbed my hand and chattered constantly as he led us to the well site. He kept pointing to my pink, sparkly sunglasses and then pointing to his face, so I let him wear them. He then pointed to the camera around my neck and posed for a photo. He pointed to other people in the crowd and indicated I should take their pictures too. We laughed together at his silliness.
Throughout the entire well installation, he chattered continuously, but I understood almost nothing of his verbiage. I noticed him trying to interact with other children in the village, but most of them ignored him completely or walked away from him. While everyone was happy about the well and the American visitors, he was clearly overjoyed at our presence. Occasionally, he'd let go of my hand to go play in the clean water, but always, he came back, grabbing my hand and and "talking" with me.
Upon getting into the truck, I said, "What an absolutely delightful little boy; he will someday tell great stories of the day the mzungus came!" My field officer looked at me strangely and said, "You realize, none of what he was saying is a real language?" His own society didn't appreciate or understand him, but this young man shared an innocent, uncomplicated joy which has remained with me across the ocean. I will never forget his sweet smile, and I sleep easier knowing that he (and all the many, MANY other children in that village) are growing up with clean, safe drinking water.
The joy of the Lord doesn't have to come from language, and it doesn't have to come from those who society decides is the best and brightest of our culture. Sometimes joy is best shared with a smile and a giggle - even when the spoken language isn't "real."
Thank you, donors, for making this possible - you bring the celebrations!
