Staff Report
• Midland Reporter-Telegram
MIDLAND, TEXAS - Prepare for Christmas with beautiful songs and scripture readings when St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church holds its annual Lessons and Carols service at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 17. The West Texas Winds ensemble will accompany the church choir.
Rather than a traditional worship service that anchors around a sermon, this style of service consists of Christmas songs interspersed with scripture readings, explained the Rev. Amy Haynie.
“This service is ideal for anyone who wants to hear the story of God, or re-hear it, to remind themselves of the holiness of the season of Christmas,” she added ...

PRESBYTERIAN PUBLISHING LAUNCHES A NEW ADVENT BOOK - While the world tries to rush us into Christmas, decorating the day after Halloween and packing it all up once the gifts are opened on Dec. 25, Advent is a season of preparation that — like our holiday gatherings themselves — takes time and care.
In “Stay Awhile: Advent Lessons in Divine Hospitality,” pastor Kara Eidson presents a banquet table of inspiration for Advent, including weekly reflections for personal and small group use, brief daily devotions and ideas to involve the whole congregation ...

From @FWMission ... Friday Story: “Irum’s Story”
Founded in 2001, Free Wheelchair Mission is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing wheelchairs for the impoverished disabled in developing nations. Headquartered in Irvine, California, FWM works around the world in partnership with a vast network of humanitarian, faith-based and government organizations, sending wheelchairs to hundreds of thousands of disabled people, providing not only the gift of mobility, but of dignity, independence, and hope.
Friday Story: “Free Wheelchair Mission Sending 1,176 Wheelchairs to Ukraine”
Free Wheelchair Mission, a humanitarian nonprofit based in Irvine, California, has partnered with Invacare Europe to provide 1,176 Invacare Action 1R wheelchairs to Ukraine. A total of four containers of wheelchairs are being shipped from the factory in India and are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
Free Wheelchair Mission has had a long-term relationship with Invacare Europe, and since their Action 1R wheelchairs are already compliant with European Union standards, they were a natural fit to source the wheelchairs for distribution into Ukraine.

Teichert Family Update ... “God is Still at Work”
The family of Karl and Jenny Teichert are serving the Lord as missionaries with OC Africa, in South Africa. They moved to Johannesburg in November, 1997 with their four children; Ann, Scott, Stephen and John. Karl serves as the Southern Africa Director of the Southern Africa Regional Team. Their vision is to see a healthy, Bible-based church established in every unreached village and community in South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia and beyond. Their strategy is to partner with key African church leaders to research, train, and mobilize the body of Christ to complete the Great Commission. They are striving to equip local leaders in Southern Africa to reach their nations for Christ and send missionaries into other countries as well.
“God is Still at Work”
Dear friends and family,
We may have felt like life went on hold for the past 16 months, but God’s work never goes on hold. Amid stories of hardship and suffering, stories of victory and unexpected fruitfulness have emerged. Here are just a few:
From the Philippines:
For many years, the Lord has blessed church members to make disciples using Outreach Bible Studies (OBSes). When lockdown came, a switch was made to Outreach Bible Studies by Group Chats (OBS GCs), an opportunity created when local cellphone providers began to give away free data — at a minimal level just strong enough to chat. This method really clicked with Filipinos, especially under COVID restrictions! Pastor Nonoy trained 15 of his members to lead OBS GCs resulting in 173 new believers. Pastor Gerry trained his members who now have over 40 OBS GCs, with over 500 new believers. When Pastor Joe held a training for 73 youth from a few churches, they were eager to start their first OBS GCs that day! The team foresees that even after COVID, OBS GCs will continue to be a unique and powerful tool for making disciples.
From Italy:
OC worker Mihai Lundell represents Europe on the board of the multi-organizational Global Member Care Network. When the pandemic hit, Mihai and the board decided to go online with their 30-day member care training courses. They expected a few hundred to sign up. They were blown away. By the end of three courses, they had trained 15,000!
From South Africa:
A growing vision to multiply Disciple Making Movements developed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 900,000 meals were distributed through the Local Ecumenical Action Network. With every food parcel, community pastors shared the love of Christ and started new Discovery Bible Studies. Karl followed up with a Disciple Making Multiplication Workshop with over 50 community pastors. Each leader set goals to accelerate a discipleship-making process toward the planting of new forms of churches.
From Portugal:
One of Sepal’s workers has a surfing ministry. (Sepal is the Latin American branch of the OC Global Alliance.) In March, he produced a tool called “Easter in the Language of Surfers.” It went viral and was translated into several languages and was downloaded 3,500 times in 29 countries. And this is just one tool! Last year we saw 834 new ministry tools created within the OC Global Alliance.
It wasn’t a year like any other in OC’s history. Yet, as Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:9, “God’s word is not chained.” Those words resonate across the OC Global Alliance today. We’re seeing God on the move in the midst of the pandemic: opening hearts, forming leaders, and multiplying disciple-making communities where none existed before.
Together for the kingdom,
Karl and Jenny

MIDLAND, TEXAS - What does Easter mean to you?
For some, Easter is just another Sunday in the year. There is no allegiance to the Christian faith. The story of Jesus coming back to life, while powerful for some, means little to this group of people.
For others, Easter is a time for their annual trip to church. Some new clothes are always nice. It’s feels good to go to a church building and engage the religious event of Easter.

From TBM ... "Crucial prayer request"
Commonly known as Texas Baptist Men, TBM empowers Christians just like you to take on the biggest challenges around the globe, changing the world one radical act of service and compassion at a time. Since 1967, TBM volunteers have delivered help, hope and healing to millions of hurting people and raising up the next generation to do likewise. As a result of its service, TBM has helped start and train disaster relief groups in all 50 states, giving birth to the nation's third-largest disaster relief network in the nation.
Each year, TBM volunteers take several trips around the globe to give access to clean drinking water to villages in desperate situations. Each of the trips is crucial to the people there, but none may be more crucial than the one that started Friday. It's no exaggeration to say this is a matter of life and death.
Five volunteers will be drilling a water well and teaching locals how to do likewise in a Ugandan refugee camp where water is so scarce people are fighting over it. Last fall, 11 people died as refugees and Ugandans fought for access to a well in the area.
If successful, the next few weeks will revolutionize life in this camp. The well Texans drill and the lessons they teach will lead to multiple wells drilled by local church leaders long after the Texas team returns home. Families will grow stronger. Children will become healthy and reach their full God-given potential.
As a result, church leaders, including the missionary we are assisting, also will have the opportunity to share about the Living Water that is Jesus Christ. Drilling water wells will be an incredible avenue for sharing God's love with the entire refugee camp.
In Matthew 18:19-20, Jesus reminds us that where people pray together in His name, God listens: "Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." I'm clinging to this truth for the next month.
I'm asking you to pray for the trip, which will go until Feb. 11. Please pray:
• step of the process, from locating water to the drilling process to the building of relationships.
• The drilling equipment works well.
• The team finds water quickly.
• For health and safety while traveling and in the camp.
• God's love is shared clearly through all the team does.
We're going to post updates from the field as often as we can despite limited internet availability. Follow along on Facebook and Instagram.
Thank you for your heart for sharing God's love. Together, we will provide clean drinking water as well as Living Water in the next few weeks.

From Catholic Charities USA ... "Advent and Christmas Daily Reflections"
The Fifth Day in the Octave of Christmas
Today we read in the First Letter of St. John that we are to keep the commandments of Jesus Christ if we profess to follow Him. The apostle’s articulation is clear – we must do more than simply say that we are followers. Our actions must reflect what we profess. How does this look to the world around us? By loving our brothers and sisters. The light of Christ that entered the world through His incarnation on Christmas shines ever brighter when we follow the commandment to love our neighbor as we love ourselves ...

Thursday of the Fourth Week of Advent
"It’s almost here, it’s almost here!” A childlike joy sprung from my heart as I flipped my 2020 calendar and saw we were finally in December. Christmas is my most favorite of all holidays. As a child, every day that passed was one day closer to the joys that only Christmas and the arrival of baby Jesus could bring. So here we are now, the day before ...
