From Outreach Foundation ... "Mission Devotional Day 27"

In calling the Philippian Christians to unity, Paul offers us an example. He writes that we are to have the mind among ourselves which we have in Christ Jesus. The verses that follow are a powerful description of Jesus’ self-emptying, being born as a man, and being obedient unto death. These lines, some scholars believe, are evidence of an early hymn of the church ...

From Outreach Foundation ... Mission Devotional Day 26"

Sometimes we forget that each of Paul’s letters was written to a church on the mission field. Paul writes then to remind them of their calling and to encourage them to be faithful witnesses. One thing that Paul makes clear is that the Christians’ life together becomes their first act of witness to the world. That is what Leslie Newbigin has in mind when he talks about the church being the hermeneutic of the gospel ...

Teichert Family Update ... “Gospel Movement in the Madagascar Rainforest”

The family of Karl and Jenny Teichert are serving the Lord as missionaries with OC Africa, in South Africa. They moved to Johannesburg in November, 1997 with their four children; Ann, Scott, Stephen and John. Karl serves as the Southern Africa Director of the Southern Africa Regional Team. Their vision is to see a healthy, Bible-based church established in every unreached village and community in South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia and beyond. Their strategy is to partner with key African church leaders to research, train, and mobilize the body of Christ to complete the Great Commission. They are striving to equip local leaders in Southern Africa to reach their nations for Christ and send missionaries into other countries as well.

“Gospel Movement in the Madagascar Rainforest”

Dear friends and family,

Since 2010, Karl has had the privilege of coming alongside Dinah to launch a movement of disciple-making churches in the unreached villages of the Madagascar rainforest. Dinah started Islands Mission with the vision of reaching the Indian Ocean islands (www.islands-mission.org.

In August of 2010, 45 leaders were equipped in a simple, obedience-based Discovery Bible Study (DBS) strategy. Through ongoing training/coaching, over eight generations of 500 leaders have reproduced nearly 10,000 DBS’s. Most of these DBS’s have multiplied and grown into larger gatherings of new believers.

We are praising the Lord that over 100,000 people have decided to follow Jesus and 20,000 have been baptized as a witness of their new life in Christ. God is so good! Please pray that more leaders would be mobilized to start 1,000 new DBS’s this year in unreached villages in the rainforest of Madagascar.

The COVID-19 pandemic and repeated cyclones have had a devasting impact on the people of the rainforest. Many have died, and others have suffered both physically and economically. Travel has been greatly restricted, which has slowed the church planting efforts.

To assist in the crisis, Dinah’s leaders are providing entrepreneurial business training to create more sustainable income initiatives. Through farming and livestock projects, they will provide assistance to the church planter’s families and bless their villages. Please pray that 85 business trainers will be equipped this year to train/mentor 200 new business entrepreneurs.

Dinah and his team are also building relationships with Malagasy-speaking Comorians who are living in Madagascar. They have started a chicken restaurant and meat shop to create opportunities to start DBS’s. The strategy is that new believers will be trained to launch Disciple Making Movements (DMM’s) back home in the Comoros islands. Please pray for open hearts to the gospel and multiplication of DBS’s.

It has truly been an honor for Karl to coach/mentor Dinah and his leaders in this growing gospel movement in Madagascar these past 11 years. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support as we trust God to finish the amazing work he has started in the Indian Ocean islands!

For God's glory,

Karl and Jenny

MEDITERRANEAN REFUGEES - On Oct. 3, 2013, the world watched in horror as photos emerged of a boat full of migrants from the horn of Africa, seeking refuge on the Italian island of Lampedusa, sank, killing more than 350 people.

Mediterranean Hope had been active in welcoming and walking alongside migrants and refugees in Italy and advocating for just policies. In an instant the organization knew it was not enough ...

From ServLife International ... "Forever Home"

ServLife International is a movement defined by values of God’s kingdom, not programs built around human efforts and activities. The reign and rule of God should be made apparent to every person on the planet, despite their religion, race or socioeconomic status. We believe that issues of justice are inseparable from the good news that Jesus Christ came to proclaim. ServLife exists to take the gospel of Christ and the hope of a better, more just, world to the lives of people we touch. This happens through individual contributions of time, creativity, resources and dreams.

Forever Home

For orphans that have been moved around from family member to family member then to an orphanage, it’s hard to feel at home in any one place for long. Building this Forever Home will give each child an opportunity to settle in and have a home of their own. “We want to give the children a good space to live, eat and enjoy their lives.”

For the last year Udaya and his staff have been working diligently on the purchased land to prepare it for building. They’ve cleared excess brush and trees, are digging a well, and have met with a local engineer to begin the next phase of the project.

Through many years of faithful prayer, ministry and commitment to the children, Udaya and his family have created an environment that is prepared for this home. God’s faithfulness is evident in the movement forward and the steps that have taken this from a dream, to a plan and now to reality.

Your most generous donation can help us build the Forever Home and provide a permanent home for over 30 children. Give today to the FOR THE CHILDREN campaign.

Thank you,

DIGITAL MINISTRY - Here are some interesting statistics that you might not know: In 2018, a Centers for Disease Control report revealed that one in four U.S. adults — 61 million — had a disability. According to the Collaborative on Faith and Disability, 84% of people with disabilities claim a faith tradition that is important to them. Yet only 10% of faith communities do any congregation-wide disability awareness. This was before the pandemic. Now in a time of digital worship, Bible studies and meetings, being part of a faith community can be more challenging for those living with a disability ...

Amidst the changes and chances of the COVID-19 pandemic, churches and entities throughout the The Synod of the Sun found ways to not only survive but also find unique and beautiful ways to minister to God's people in need. Mission and ministry takes form in supplying basic necessities, or caring for the environment. Connections have been made via video feed and blankets. In this edition of SunSpots, we’re going back to November 14th of last year when the Network for Dismantling Racism hosted a conversation with activist, public theologian, and author Christena Cleveland, Ph.D.

Today’s episode is from the afternoon session with Christena where she reflected on how the Church has responded (or not responded) to events like the Tulsa Race Massacre and what the Church's role is and should be in movements like Black Lives Matter.

This is part one of that afternoon session. On a future episode, we will feature the Question and Answer part of that afternoon session.
