MIDLAND, TEXAS - Growing up on a caliche road in Midland is a fond memory for me. We spent hours riding bikes with the neighbors, skinning knees and working out childhood disagreements. Even as a young child, I always knew we were getting close to the home when I could hear the crunch of gravel beneath the car’s tires. Meadowview Lane was the path to that loving sanctuary during my formative years.
As Midland grows, new roads are needed, and older ones need repair. We get frustrated with orange cones and detour signs. Sure, we don’t want to risk potholes, but we also don’t love being inconvenienced by construction, or what big city folks call “everyday driving.”
There is nothing particularly flashy about roads. We often take them for granted until we notice the wear and tear, but roads are what connect us. These routes help make Midland a city. Without them, there is no way home ...
