Today in the PC-USA Mission Yearbook

The Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study is a daily devotional with 365 inspiring mission stories that come from next door and all across the globe. It inspires thousands of Presbyterians daily as they uphold the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in intercessory prayer. The stories in the 2013 Mission Yearbook were gathered around the question of Jesus to his disciples, “How many loaves have you?” from Mark 6:38. The book is filled with stories of God’s abundance in the face of overwhelming needs and a scarcity of resources.

MISSION PRESBYTERY, TEXAS - On September 4, 2011, the most devastating wildfire in Texas history ignited in the Bastrop-Smithville area. When the fire had finally been controlled some 36 days later, it had burned 34,000 acres and destroyed 1,600 homes and numerous businesses, shops, and farms. When the disciples and Jesus faced the seemingly impossible task of feeding the 5,000, Jesus asks the disciples, “How many loaves have you? Go and see.” We believe Jesus was asking them to take stock of their resources and to trust that no matter how overwhelmed they felt, with God all things are possible.
