ABILENE, TEXAS - As the group of students or “fellows” as they’re called looked around the room at the photos on the walls, Andrew Penns explained.

“The purpose of Curtis House,” he said, “is to present the history of the African American community in Abilene.”

The history lesson and tour of Curtis House Cultural Center came on Tuesday, just the second day of a two-week experience in Abilene for the students who come from all over the world ...
