Teichert Family Update ... Our New Ministry Partnership in Uganda

The family of Karl and Jenny Teichert are serving the Lord as missionaries with OC Africa, in South Africa. They moved to Johannesburg in November, 1997 with their four children; Ann, Scott, Stephen and John. Karl serves as the Southern Africa Director of the Southern Africa Regional Team. Their vision is to see a healthy, Bible-based church established in every unreached village and community in South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia and beyond. Their strategy is to partner with key African church leaders to research, train, and mobilize the body of Christ to complete the Great Commission. They are striving to equip local leaders in Southern Africa to reach their nations for Christ and send missionaries into other countries as well.

Our New Ministry Partnership in Uganda

Dear Family and Friends,

Last year, our OC Africa team formed an exciting partnership with a growing ministry called CLIDE in Uganda in conjunction with a group of churches in the Portland area. CLIDE (Community Livestock-Integrated Development Consultancy) is a Christ-centered community development initiative addressing both the physical and spiritual needs of the hurting Karamojong, Iteso, and Sabiny peoples of North-East Uganda.

The Karamoja people have been a plagued by tribal warfare for decades. Peace initiatives mediated by CLIDE in partnership with the Church of Uganda have brought glimmers of hope to the Bokora and Pian sub-tribes of the Karamojong, through God’s grace.

In 2007, the CLIDE leaders, along with elders from several churches in Portland, began to draw warring Karamojang leaders toward reconciliation and forgiveness. Out of that intervention, communities decided to restore their relationships and come together in peace villages, forgiving one another and joining in various development projects.

Thousands migrated to join settlements in Nabwel and Nakayot, the former war zone. The warring communities responded very positively, turning to God and trusting Christ. Now, 10 years later, over 23,000 people resettled in the villages, living, working, and intermarrying in peace!

CLIDE offers a variety of programs to transform lives and villages through:

Agriculture and livestock-based training and development
Child education and orphan care sponsorships (Timothy project)
Natural resource management and ethno-veterinary research
HIV / AIDS education
Spiritual discipleship and church planting
Peace and reconciliation enhancement

CLIDE and their partnering churches in the States have asked our OC Africa team to assist with financial accountability and organizational support. Karl had the opportunity to visit the CLIDE team in Soroti, Uganda, last June. It was an incredible experience to meet the various staff members, hear their stories, and see the incredible impact the projects are making for so many people. Karl and our teammate, John Witherow, hope to visit CLIDE team again this year.

Please pray for Karl and John as they serve the CLIDE leadership team in financial support development, leadership coaching, disciple-making, and other training needs.

Thank you for your faithful prayers and financial support in the Lord’s mission. We are sincerely grateful for you!

Karl and Jenny
