One Month Sewing Training
Most women in villages throughout Nepal have little opportunities beyond farming. ServLife's microfinance program and vocational training empowers women to create new opportunities and double or triple their annual income in less than a year.
This March, 15 women graduated from ServLife's one-month sewing training in Kathmandu, Nepal. The training covered the basics of sewing and each woman learned how to make articles of clothing ranging from dresses to shirts to even purses.
Most of the women were from remote villages and had never received any kind of training like this. Bimala shares, "When I came here, I didn't know anything about sewing. But now I know how to sew 13 different kinds of clothes!"
The daily training was focused on sewing but also included Bible study, teaching and worship time. Each woman was gifted a sewing machine upon graduation and will be able to earn $4-8 per day. At the graduation ceremony, Bimala was glowing, "When I leave here I will start a tailoring shop back home!"
