MIDLAND/ODESSA, TEXAS - On Aug. 3, the rock band Skillet is slated to play the closing slot on the mainstage at Rock the Desert. That performance will cap off 20 years of the Christian music festival -- for now. The executive director for the Rock the Desert Ministries, which oversees the event, has said that there will not be a festival planned for 2020.

“Usually while we’re about to host the festival, we’re in the middle of planning and booking the next one,” Marcy Tull said by phone. “The board voted to take a year-long sabbatical and focus on what God has in store for the ministry” ...
