Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Our mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, we seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).
These Are the Gifts I Ask
These are the gifts I ask
Of Thee, Spirit serene:
Strength for the daily task,
Courage to face the road,
Good cheer to help me bear the traveler’s load,
And, for the hours of rest that come between,
An inward joy of all things heard and seen.

Bedside Prayers: Prayers and Poems for When You Rise and Go to Sleep
by June Cotner
A message from Chris Laufer, Coordinator, Faces of Children
Greetings, Faces of Children Intercessor,
As I look at my calendar for September and October, I take a deep breath and wonder how I’m going to get everything done between all of the trips and out-of-town events. I didn’t even bother to unpack my toiletry kit this last time because I’m just going to drop it into the suitcase in a couple of days. Do you ever feel this way? That time is a carousel horse just whizzing around at top speed and you’re holding on for dear life?
This prayer by Henry Van Dyke brings me great comfort during these days of rush and frenzy, these days of car and plane travel, these days of stress and urgency. It reminds me to “be still and know that I am God”… to find time to celebrate the “inward joy of all things heard and seen.” Thanks be to God for reminders from Psalm and poem!
Please join the Faces of Children prayer group on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. in the Bride’s room at First Presbyterian Church-Midland, as we lift in prayer the children of our hearts and communities. Lunch ($5) and fellowship will follow.
If you have prayer concerns or celebrations about children, those who care for them, those who have authority over them, or those who harm them (the really hard prayers to say sometimes), please send them to me at at claufer@facesofchildren.net, or give me a call.
Struggling to slow down the ride,
Chris
