MIDLAND, TEXAS -
Joe Thomas has been repairing homes in Midland for the past 35 years, and he said it’s brought him to tears many a time.
“We show up, we make a tremendous mess and when we’re gone, it looks like a brand-new house,” he said. “It gives you something for yourself. What good is it to pat somebody on the back and say, ‘Have a good life,’ and then do nothing to help them? Our religion is to help people.”
Thomas is a volunteer for Christmas in Action, a local nonprofit that repairs the homes of the low-income elderly and disabled for free. Homeowners must be 60 or older or physically disabled, live on a fixed income and own their home.
