MIDLAND, TEXAS - First Baptist Church’s finance committee began having concerns over the organization’s budget at the end of last year, according to church council vice chairman Art Hobbs who spoke a day after a FBC town hall meeting when members addressed layoffs of 13 staffers.

The church faced an estimated $925,000 budget hole this fiscal year as membership and tithes have continued to fall. In a presentation to a packed church hall Wednesday evening, Hobbs said that the drop in the price of oil was a major factor as well ...
