Partners Blog: "Being the Diffrence"

Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma, and now in the Middle East, as well. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other conflict zones.

Being the Difference

I have been thinking a lot over the past few months about “Rights” and “Responsibilities”. Increasingly, we hear about someone’s rights being infringed upon, or how they have been offended by someone else. We live in a world now where Rights are enshrined in law, and this is a good thing. We talk about equal rights, women’s rights, the right to free speech, human rights, and so on; these are all valuable, important concepts designed to protect people, and to set standards by which people are treated. And yet I can’t help but feel slightly troubled by the undercurrent here ...
