2017 Teacher Training Trip Reflections

I could tell you about the elephant in the river we spotted from the bus window on the ride from Nepalgunj to Chisapani, or the thick, humid 107 degree heat and failing air conditioners at the conference center, or the cluster of children shouting “Bonnie, Bonnie,” from across the gulch. But none of those could capture the spirit of the 2017 ServLife teachers’ conference trip to Nepal ...

Double your FWM donation, this month in Midland

"Because NO ONE should have to crawl!" was Dr. Don Schoendorfer's comment when he recognized the need for strong and inexpensive wheelchairs. The Free Wheelchair Mission Drive, with matching funds, is through the month of October. Cost of each wheelchair is $80. You can donate online at fpcmid.org and clicking on Make a Contribution (selecting 'Quick Give,' then 'Wheelchairs'), using a kiosk at the church or sending a check payable to FPC with "wheelchair" noted in the memo line.

Today's Reading

“Sire,” said Tirian, when he had greeted all these. “If I have read the chronicle aright, there should be another. Has not your Majesty two sisters? Where is Queen Susan?”

“My sister Susan,” answered Peter shortly and gravely, “is no longer a friend of Narnia.”

“Yes,” said Eustace, “and whenever you’ve tried to get her to come and talk about Narnia or do anything about Narnia, she says ‘What wonderful memories you have! Fancy your still thinking about all those funny games we used to play when we were children.’ ”

“Oh Susan!” said Jill. “She’s interested in nothing nowadays except nylons and lipstick and invitations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grown-up.”

“Grown-up, indeed,” said the Lady Polly. “I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she’ll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. Her whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one’s life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can.”

“Well, don’t let’s talk about that now,” said Peter.

Teichert Family Update ... No Place Left!

The family of Karl and Jenny Teichert are serving the Lord as missionaries with OC Africa, in South Africa. They moved to Johannesburg in November, 1997 with their four children; Ann, Scott, Stephen and John. Karl serves as the Southern Africa Director of the Southern Africa Regional Team. Their vision is to see a healthy, Bible-based church established in every unreached village and community in South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia and beyond. Their strategy is to partner with key African church leaders to research, train, and mobilize the body of Christ to complete the Great Commission. They are striving to equip local leaders in Southern Africa to reach their nations for Christ and send missionaries into other countries as well.

No Place Left!

This was the theme of the 2017 Movement for African National Initiatives (MANI) Southern Africa Consultation from August 21-24 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The theme was taken from Romans 15:23 by the Apostle Paul’s admittance of no place left for him to work in the region. This aligns with the MANI vision that the whole Church will take the whole gospel to the whole world. Over 200 different churches, organizations, and networks represented from over 20 countries participated in this strategic event. This unique consultation was a joint effort of the MANI Southern Africa, Islands, and Portuguese regions and the World Evangelism Network of South Africa (WENSA). OC Africa volunteered to serve as the host organization. Ria, our office administrator, handled the entire registration process with excellence. Several members of our OC Africa -Southern Africa and Africa Area teams also attended.

The participants interacted in five tracks. Mission experts facilitated practical experiences and lessons learned in their respective fields. The topics of the tracks were:

The Biblical identity of the church and its role in the world
   Discipleship – disciples making disciples
Generational engagement – children and youth
   The world at your doorstep
The unengaged unreached people of Africa and beyond

Karl was given the opportunity to co-facilitate the Discipleship track along with another church leader from Cape Town. Each participant in the track agreed to:

   Find someone to disciple them
Make at least one disciple in the next 12 months
Equip and empower their disciple to disciple another
   Disciple others in community

The delegates from each country met together on the last day to discuss the implications and establish specific short-term goals and action plans.

Please pray with us for the following:

Greater unity and collaboration by national church and organizational leaders
Commitment by each leader to implement their goals and action plans
Wisdom, resources and effective followup by the MANI regional team

Thank you for your faithful partnership to multiply disciple-making churches across Southern Africa.

For His glory,

Karl and Jenny

OC Africa is an interdenominational ministry committed to developing, equipping, and mobilizing church leaders to multiply healthy, Bible-based churches in every community in Southern Africa and the world. OC is a faith-based mission who depends on the Lord to provide committed, financial supporters and partners. The contributions from these individuals help generate ministry opportunities around the world, impact missionaries and their global work, and provide a means for the International Mobilization Center to function. Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma, and now in the Middle East, as well. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other conflict zones.

A Strong Boy I met

Since I started working at Partners most of my time is spent working with children in different boarding homes. They all have different backgrounds and different problems. Every time I visit the homes, I interview the students and caregivers. Every time I hear their stories, it never fails to encourage me. I wonder how they can go through these situations. They showed me they are able to love and smile when it is hard for them. It is really powerful to hear someones life experiences. For the past 2 months, I’ve gone to Mae Ra Moe Refugee Camp to visit the children and caregivers. I interviewed many students, but Saw Dal Lwe Htoo stood out to me out of all the children ...
