ODESSA, TEXAS - Throughout its first nine months of hosting “Pull Up Parties,” the nonprofit organization God’s Way has experienced fluctuating numbers during those free events.

COME TO THE WATER
Jan Van Heiningen
Volunteer, Tennessee

“Come all you who are thirsty, come to the water.”
Isaiah 55:1a

There are so many “memory pictures” in my heart from my seven trips to Africa. The one I share today is that of villagers escorting us to the dedication of a new well.

Inviting our friends and families to a special event – sometimes life changing and sometimes not – is so much easier for us here in the USA than for our African friends. We simply send a text, or make a phone call, or mail and invitation, etc. However, in a remote African village, the invitation to their family and friends to witness the well installation and to participate in the well dedication reminds me of a single drop of water radiating outward. As we exit the truck, we often hear a single voice begin this ripple announcing the arrival of the MMM team. That voice is joined by another – then another – and the invitation to “come to the water” becomes an ever-increasing choral processional that includes dancing, hugging, and occasionally a crying baby. A scene of a joyful yet dusty celebration of praise confirming so beautifully that indeed “Water is Life.” A scene that never leaves my memory or my heart.

How blessed we are to witness the moment that generational village prayers for safe drinking water have finally been answered.

Application Question: What song do I/we sing in our communities that invite others to carry out His work in Africa?

Prayer: Father of us all – I pray that as each of us shares the good news of Your Son and the MMM story, that our efforts will forever bring honor to Your name and mirror Isaiah’s invitation – “Come all you who are thirsty, come to the water”. Asante Sana Bwana Jesu!

It wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated volunteers and ambassadors.

Ambassadors serve as Free Wheelchair Mission’s primary champions. They help raise awareness of the worldwide need for mobility—and the solutions we offer—by hosting events, engaging on social media, and raising funds in their communities, schools, churches, and workplaces throughout the country.

In the News ... "Moses a symbol of humility"

“Victory, O Lord!” By John Everett Milais
• Israelites’ leader faced many obstacles to fulfill his mission

By Bob Campbell, Reporter
Odessa American

ODESSA, TEXAS - Deuteronomy 34:10-12 may say it best: “Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land.

“For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.”

The Revs. James Channell, Albert Flores, Chris Hagger and Ralph Emerson say Moses was a seemingly unlikely choice to lead the Israelites to the Promised Land because he stammered, lacked self-confidence and, as he is described in Numbers 12:3, “was the meekest man on earth” ...

FISHERS of PEOPLE
Isaac Tindi
MMM Field Office, Malawi

As Jesus was walking beside the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
Matthew 4:18-20

Together and only together, we can be who God wants us to be. It is a pleasure to note that there are several people from different entities working to make the life of the local people better. This takes the love of Christ.

Remember Peter and Andrew were at work when Jesus said “come follow me,” and they stopped their own work and followed him.

Who would have gone with Jesus had they said ”we are busy,” like most of us today may say?

Application Question: Do we remember we are in the lake to win souls to Christ?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You blessed us to bless, help us to remember that “it is never off-season winning lost souls to Your glory. Amen.

Dear friends,

This weekend we were able to go and get people out of Ras Al-Ein/Seri Kani and for that we thank God and all of you who made it possible. You can read more about those rescues on our website.

Every day, the Turkish-supported Free Syrian Army (FSA) attacks Syrian Democratic Force (SDF) positions. On Monday, an FSA/Turkish proxy force attacked SDF soldiers four kilometers south of Ras Al-Ein/Seri Kani. We were taking heavy machine gun fire from FSA gun jeeps and dismounted fighters on the assault shooting at our medical team as we moved forward to find a wounded SDF soldier. The FSA also has two captured Humvees that they used to help overrun the SDF position.

FSA troops were on three sides of us but we were able to get out. We prayed and along with some SDF soldiers circled around to try to penetrate the FSA lines to rescue the wounded man ...

ACCEPTING OUR SITUATIONS
Francis Kaponda
MMM Field Officer, Malawi

“I have learned to be content with whatever I have.”
Philippians 4:11

Hello in Jesus name, let me share with you the story about the sickness of my aunt. My aunt was diagnosed with liver cancer and was bedridden for three years. The situation reach a point that she was discharged from the hospital so that we just had to await for her dying day at home. She was obviously in pain and everyone had a face showing a dark cloud overshadowing us all. To everyone’s surprise was the never-fading joy that was ever conspicuous on my aunt’s face. Every conversation with all that visited ended up with “worry not about me, I am with God.” One critical day came, she could not speak or eat anything but just breathe and everyone thought it was over. Surprisingly the following day was the day my aunt stood up from the bed and walked for herself for the first time in three years. She is full of life and working just like everyone else now. The hospital checkup showed the cancer had disappeared.

I took some lessons from my aunt’s sickness that we need to be contented in the presence of God that all is well and we have no reason to worry. My aunt had surrendered her life in the hands of God and she found peace in it and would not worry about her situation as everyone else was. When we put God first everything else doesn’t matter, this includes wherever we die or live, “it is all well.”

Most are times when we want what we want for ourselves instead of wanting God. Most times we want miracles to happen before we embrace the Holy Ghost yet these things are supposed to be the opposite. Seek first the kingdom of God. When we embrace the Holy Spirit miracles will just flow. His presence alone should be contentment to us, at that point we will not be desperate for a miracle but leave it all in His hands so that His will should be done.

Application Question: Do we believe it is well through Christ in all our circumstances?

Prayer: Dear Lord help us seek first Your presence and get contented in it and give us the strength to keep coping with our situations, believing in Your never-failing mightiness. So that we cultivate the spiritual riches in Christ which will bring joy from our within knowing that “it is well” in all our situations. In Jesus mighty name, Amen.

Invitation to Prayer from Faces of Children ... TODAY

Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Their mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, they seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).

Invitation to Prayer ... TODAY

Dear Intercessors,

We will meet locally every Wednesday - TODAY - at 11:30 in the prayer closet at First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Please join us in lifting up the needs of vulnerable children in our community and around the world!

Sincerely,

Carrie McKean

October Faces of Children Digest

In a couple weeks, my family is moving.

We aren't going far - just to another house in town... a bit more room for our growing family. Make no mistake -- this was mostly a decision pushed forward by me. I've wanted a spare bedroom for guests; room to gather more than one family around our table... Just a bit more space so we aren't always so on top of each other. But now that we're in the middle of cleaning out closets and packing up boxes, I find myself asking lots of questions. Is it necessary? Is it worth it? Am I ungrateful for what I have? How will we get all the boxes packed and stuff moved while the rest of our lives must carry on? The questions keep me up at night and wake me with a knot of anxiety in my stomach.

My children won't have to change schools or really experience any other significant upheaval, other than the location of the bedroom, but I find myself growing more overwhelmed by the anxiety we've introduced into all of our lives as I contemplate all that needs to happen in the next couple of weeks. I worry about their adjustment and happiness... about my husband's and my own... heck, I've even worried about the dog!

And in the midst of my planning and fretting and box packing, I see this picture of a Syrian Kurdish mother fleeing her home -- fleeing the Turkish airstrikes -- with only her children in her arms. No time to pack boxes. No time to prepare the children for the upcoming move. No expectations that what's ahead might end up being good after all.

Getty Images
It puts my own move in perspective. At my core, I don't believe I'm really that different from this mother. She's really not that different from me. We both want to hear our babies laugh more often than cry. We both want them to grow up healthy and strong. If moving for relatively good and happy reasons is stressful and overwhelming to me, surely moving for her under these circumstances must feel like running up Mt. Everest. I'm carrying her picture close to my heart this month, and anytime I feel stressed by the impending change in my own life circumstances that's coming up, I want to turn that anxiety into energy for prayer. And I'd like to invite you to join me.

For the remainder of October, will you join me in praying for families who are fleeing?

Week Two: Pray for Children

Last year, our church helped rebuild two Syrian schools. We celebrated as those children were able to go back to normal life. Now, those schools are in the path of this new wave of violence. Children have already lost lives and limbs in the bombing. Please join me in praying protection over these children that are caught in the cross-fire..

Blessings,

Carrie
