From Outreach Foundation ... "It is illegal to be a Christian in Iran. A Letter From Mark Mueller"

It is illegal to be a Christian in Iran. A Letter From Mark Mueller

God is doing incredible work in the world. This should not surprise us, but sometimes it does

The Outreach Foundation is working more closely with Pars Theological Center in London. Pars trains future pastors and church leaders in the spread of the Gospel in Iran and where Iranians gather. What is unique about Pars? Many of their students return to Iran to continue the flourishing work of Christ amid potentially harsh treatment by the government.

It is illegal to be a Christian in Iran. Imprisonment is possible. Disappearance and death are as well. Yet, God is calling people out of the country to be equipped as Christian leaders to return and form underground house churches.

The result is the church in Iran is one of the fastest growing churches in the world.

You can be a part of this incredible work by supporting Pars throug The Outreach Ministry.

Please consider a Kingdom gift.

Rev. Dr. Mark Mueller

Engaging followers of Christ for His work in the world, the Outreach Foundation is committed to helping the church live out its missional calling, building the capacity of the global church, especially where the church is vulnerable or growing rapidly, and transforming lives through mission involvement.

Rola Al Ashkar
Today in the Mission Yearbook: September 25, 2022

GIFTS OF NEW IMMIGRANTS - Rola Al Ashkar is a Presbyterian Christian from Lebanon. She grew up in a non-religious family, in a culture drenched in religion. Her parents took her and her brothers to church and Sunday school on occasions. When she had her confirmation class, she received her first Bible, and even as a teenager, she read the Bible with critical eyes, questioning parts of it and searching for answers. Her curiosity led her to regularly attend Sunday services, youth meetings and church summer camps, and through those experiences her faith grew, and she found a community in the Presbyterian Synod of Syria and Lebanon. ...

Stories are powerful. One person’s story turns a nebulous conflict into a face with a name. It reminds us of our shared humanity and allows us to stand in solidarity with people we have never met.

Our team was recently on the ground in Karen State, Myanmar, responding to recent displacement from the ongoing attacks by the Myanmar Military. The attacks have resulted in the displacement of at least 2,799 people in the past few weeks ...

A week after fighting broke out between the Iraqi militia and local militants in Sinjar, Iraq, our local staff member brought food to 42 Yazidi families who were displaced by the conflict and had left their homes with nothing. We stand with the Yazidi children and their families who have borne the consequences and pain of conflict for far too long. May love in action be our counter-movement of hope.

Pastor Fursan Zumot
Today in the Mission Yearbook: July 31, 2022

PASTOR FURSAN ZUMOT, INTERNATIONAL PEACEMAKER - Pastor Fursan Zumot did not want to see Tawfeek leave his church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem.

Tawfeek told him he had applied for immigration to Canada, where he understood education was free. Sending his kids to school in Jerusalem was a heavy financial burden.

“As a pastor in Jerusalem, where Christian presence is in danger, I was not happy to hear this,” Zumot said. “While waiting for the Canadian embassy to reply to his application, the church tried its best to provide a scholarship for his kids. Even though it was stressful for the church, we were able to provide his kids with a scholarship. After that, Tawfeek’s application of immigration was accepted, but he chose to stay in Jerusalem.

“This is how the church can protect the Christian presence in Jerusalem.”

Presbyterians and others will have a chance to hear and speak with Zumot ...

PALESTINIAN NAKBA REMEMBRANCE DAY - Like thousands of other Palestinians, my parents experienced dispossession and became refugees because of the Nakba (disaster) that befell the Palestinian people and society on May 15, 1948. Becoming refugees and seeing the disintegration of all that you used to love is a very difficult transition. Spiritual guidance and comfort are a resource that I witnessed both my father and mother use to recoup and go on. But it was not an easy process. I often accompanied my father to the nearby Holy Sepulchre where the saga of Crucifixion and Resurrection happened. Our home of refugee was just minutes away from the church and it became essential for my parents to reinvigorate themselves by visiting the church frequently to recover from the trauma of dispossession and refuge. The model that my parents offered was one of faith, despite all odds ...

SHADES OF OPPRESSION - I was born in Nazareth, but spent five years of my childhood in Haifa, Israel’s third largest city, where my father was the Anglican priest.

In some ways, living on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea was idyllic. I remember with joy road trips to Nazareth and fishing excursions with my grandfather. But I also remember having to speak my mother tongue, Arabic, in hushed tones on the street, lest we attract unwanted attention from our Jewish Israeli neighbors and always sensing that somehow, we might be seen as different ...
