Faces of Children: Prayer Concerns for This Week

Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Our mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, we seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).

Prayer Concerns for the Week of 11/07/13

Haiti

Give God thanks that the 22 orphaned children and the staff of the No Place Like Home (NPLH) orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti are safe for now. Thugs with counterfeit land titles (and the support of alleged corrupt government officials and judges) were trying to take over the land on which the orphanage sits and have made threats against the staff and children.

Please pray for the safety of the children and staff at NPLH. Continue to pray for a hedge of protection from the evil that threatens to displace them from this safe home.
Pray God will provide Jacque and Marie, the rightful property and orphanage owners, a way through this difficult and dangerous situation. Give thanks to God for the outpouring of support from the international community for Jacque, Marie, their staff, and the children.
Please pray the hearts of those with the authority to help the children in this orphanage will soften towards them.
Pray for the network of people threatening to kidnap the children or harm the staff at NPLH. Pray God will be at work cleansing the evil from their hearts and minds.

Italy

Keep close in prayer the survivors of a boat that capsized off the southern Italian island of Lampedusa on October 3, 2013. Pray for the estimated 200 African migrants (from Eritrea, Ghana, and Somalia) who were rescued when the boat they were on caught fire and overturned. Pray for the loved ones of the more than 300 children and adults who drowned in this disaster.

Pray God will bring comfort to the families and friends of the 215 people killed. Pray for the hundreds of people injured in the quake and the 840 aftershocks.

Please pray for the more than 350,000 children and people who have been displaced by the quake and are still living in evacuation centers or with relatives. Pray for those who do not have access to safe shelter… whose homes have been destroyed by the quake or aftershocks.

Keep in prayer children and families who have lost everything—homes, schools, churches, livelihoods—in the quake. Pray God will provide for their immediate and long-term needs.

United States

Give thanks to God for answering prayers about 1-year-old Sophie who had been having frequent absence seizures (petit mal seizures). Neurological testing did not reveal any abnormalities and she hasn’t had any more seizures. Please pray Sophie will continue to be seizure-free. Pray for her parents, Justin and Kenzie, as they care for their precious daughter.

Faces of Children

Thanks be to God for the overwhelmingly positive response to pray for children from the participants at the Synod of the South Atlantic 2013 Presbyterian Women’s Gathering last weekend! Give God praise for the many new prayer partners who have committed to pray for children through Faces of Children.
Please surrender in prayer these requests that came from participants at the Synod of the South Atlantic PW Gathering last weekend: for Haydn *; for 7-year-old Gavin; for at-risk children at Chicora Elementary School; for children around the world. *Name changed for confidentiality and/or protection.
Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
* Name changed for confidentiality and/or protection.

If you have prayer requests about children, those who care for them, those who have authority over them, or those who harm them (the really hard prayers to say sometimes), please send them to Chris Laufer, FOC Coordinator, at claufer@facesofchildren.net
