Faces of Children: Prayer Concerns for This Week

Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Our mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, we seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).

Prayer Concerns for the Week of 03/13/14

Indonesia

Please keep in prayer the 200,000 children and people affected by a volcanic eruption last month on Indonesia’s island of Java. Pray for the 76,000 people of five cities in the province of East Java who had to be evacuated because of Mount Kelud’s eruption on February 14.

Pray for those whose homes, schools, and businesses were covered in thick ash that caused many roofs to collapse. Pray for those whose farms and crops were covered in ash, threatening many families’ livelihoods.

United States

Please keep 4-year-old Jordan McDowell close in prayer as she recovers from two difficult surgeries. Pray God will bring healing to her little body as it recovers from having one of her kidneys (with a fist-sized tumor wrapped around it) removed. Pray for healing from the second surgery to remove another tumor from her lungs.
o Pray Jordan will experience God’s peace and comfort during this challenging time.
o Pray for her parents, Jerin and Kristen, as they help their frightened daughter through this difficult season.
o Pray for Kristen, who is pregnant and due this week. Pray for a safe delivery and a healthy baby.
o Give God thanks for the community of support surrounding this family during a very tough time.
Give thanks to God for the rescue of three siblings who had been beaten and tied to their beds, sometimes for weeks at a time. Thanks be to God one of the children sent her teacher an email telling about the abuse and asking for help and that this teacher responded quickly. Praise God these children are now safe in a loving and supportive foster home situation.

o Pray God will bring healing to the 9- and 11-year-old girls who were repeatedly raped, allegedly by their stepfather. Pray for healing for their 8-year-old brother who was allegedly abused by their stepfather. Pray for these siblings’ emotional, physical, and psychological healing.
o Pray for the alleged abusers - the stepfather, mother, and grandmother - who have been charged with child endangerment. Pray they will receive the proper punishment for their alleged crimes against these children.

Prayer requests from Northwoods/The Woodlands Presbyterian churches’ women’s retreat

Please pray for poor students who attend Spring Independent School District schools in the Houston, Texas area.
Pray for Christine* who must be the adult because her mother is not and neglects her.
Please pray Yemi Garcia in El Salvador may know God’s love and be safe. May she come to know God’s purpose for her life and embrace that wholeheartedly.
Pray for Sarah* whose parents lie and wonder why she has problems being truthful.
Please pray for a Houston, Texas family that struggles with poverty, cleanliness, personal safety issues, proper nutrition, encouragement of their children, and overall well-being. Pray for the parents who both have mild intellectual disabilities. Pray for their oldest daughter Laura* who is autistic, and for their son Brad* who has been deeply affected by his environment. Pray for the new baby in the family.
Pray for children at risk of emotional and verbal abuse because their parents are extremely stressed by their current economic situation. Pray God will fill these parents with a peace that surpasses all understanding and one that will allow them the ability to provide the love and support their children desperately need.

Faces of Children

Pray for Faces of Children prayer partner Linda as she recovers from a severe concussion after falling and hitting the back of her head on an icy sidewalk. Please pray for her full recovery from this head injury as she is feeling stress at not being able to work for a while.
Pray for Faces of Children intercessor Karen as she recovers from oral surgery. Please pray the infection will clear up and not recur.
Please keep in prayer Faces of Children prayer partner Carrie and her husband Jacob as they prepare to travel to China where they will get to take their adopted daughter Alea home to the United States. Give thanks for the ways in which God has answered so many prayers about this process and smoothed the path for Carrie and Jacob. Pray for their daughter Cora as she anticipates the arrival of her new little sister.
Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.

If you have prayer requests about children, those who care for them, those who have authority over them, or those who harm them (the really hard prayers to say sometimes), please send them to Chris Laufer, FOC Coordinator, at claufer@facesofchildren.net
