ODESSA, TEXAS - Before Michael Sis moved out to West Texas to assume his new position as leader of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Angelo, he was advised by his predecessor Bishop Michael Pfeifer to prepare for elements unique to the Permian Basin area.

“He made it clear that this job involves a lot of driving, and he informed me that he drove a million miles in 28 years as bishop here,” Sis said. “He recommended that I get a strong vehicle and that I put the little deer whistles on the bumper, which I will do.”

Sis laid out his first impressions of the area and the goals he has for the 29 counties he will serve during a visit to Odessa on Tuesday ...
