LUBBOCK, TEXAS - Kris Perez of the Lubbock Salvation Army said the summer heat is just as dangerous as the winter cold.
He said nobody should be outside for a long period of time in this heat. But unfortunately that’s not always the case — the annual point-in-time homeless count in 2018 reported 333 homeless individuals in Lubbock County. Perez has seen these individuals huddled in the shade and out in the heat.
Lubbock has hit at least 100 degrees much of this week, and reached 105 degrees the past two days. He, along with representatives at Open Door, said when temperatures reach this high, their focus is offering a cool place to stay ...
