WAW Wednesday ... Hear some encouraging news ...

"The Word at Work is a ministry that mobilizes churches and individuals to answer God's call to minister to those in need," writes Rev. Tim Tam, Director of the Amarillo, Texas-based ministry. "Through our relationships, God reveals needs and opportunities for service. As we come along side the poor, new friendships develop and doors for ministry open. As we serve, God provides the resources to supply for the needs he reveals."

Hear some encouraging news ...

... and also a little window into the Valley of Peace, Post-Hurricane Earl.

Our board member, Janie Thomas, has worked tirelessly to ensure scholarship recipients get the funding they need. I'm not sure how many we sponsor in total but there are 59 in the Valley of Peace alone. Here is a word from RC school vice-principal, Judith Melgar, school who oversees high school scholarships for Valley of Peace Partners.

Dear All:

The school year has started for us, and perhaps this is one of the busiest months-practicing routines and procedures, preparing for the independence parade, meeting parents etc. But all in all, things are fine.

Our students, who attend BCS started classes on the 27 Aug. And are taking classes without delay. On the other hand, our students at Valley of Peace SDA Academy had a one week delay - but it seems it was for the best. The school has a new principal and he seems to have plans of upgrading and developing - some positive changes (infrastructure, student uniform, and the sale of healthy snacks) are already evident. So, despite the passage of Hurricane Earl, good things are happening at school.

Nonetheless, most of the families who are dependent on peasant farming are struggling to make ends meet, but are optimistic and have already re-planted their fields...God is good and always provides for our needs ... if things go well, by Christmas time our people will be harvesting crops and should have a good season. :-)

Thank you for keeping in touch, for your prayers and for your concern. I appreciate it!

Regards,

Judith

And here's some other great news ...

Our staff is growing.

Meet the latest addition to our office in Amarillo, Financial Secretary Dyann Folkner!

Having been in the depths of corporate America in my "prior" life and with many non-profit volunteer hours under my belt, I am delighted that God has led me to The Word at Work. It is exciting to think that the skills God has honed in me will be used for his purposes. It humbles me that I am included in this wonderful ministry!

We are grateful that Dyann is joining our team. I know you join us in welcoming her!

Thanks for being the Word at Work!
