BEAUTIFUL VOICES IN SONG

"I will praise God’s name in song and glorify Him with Thanksgiving." Psalm 69:30
I remember a song like it was yesterday, from Tanzania, during well season, looking forward to returning.
As the sun was setting low, with a quiet group of men all around ready to lend any hand, the installation crew worked on the final well of the day. This well was different from many of the others.
Normally, there was much noise with clings and clangs, pipe wrenches on metal, many joyous voices of villagers and workers, business to tend to, installing the pump, footsteps and buckets, children.
It was as if the lowering sun lowered the noise as it turned up the volume on the absolute heavenly song of the Mamas and the children perched on a rise next to the well.
They were standing overlooking the well as the sun shone on their faces. I will always remember the gentle peaceful smiles, easy rhythmic swaying and clapping of hands, the song they sang. Their song was so powerfully peaceful it overtook the moment, nothing else mattered.
I asked the Field Supervisor what were the words that they were singing? He said, “They are praising God’s name and thanking Him for their blessings.”
