MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Field’s Edge has begun construction on a tiny-home village for Midland’s homeless intended to give nearly 100 individuals permanent residences.
The nonprofit broke ground Nov. 3 at the site in southwest Midland near Interstate 20 and Loop 250, according to Chief Operating Officer Laura Chandler. An official groundbreaking ceremony was planned for Nov. 11 but was delayed after staff were exposed to COVID-19. Chandler said the ceremony will be held sometime next year.
During the initial phase of construction, 10 tiny homes, a bath house and laundry room and a community building with a kitchen will be built. The missional house John-Mark Echols and his family will live in will be included in the first 10 homes.
Once the project is completed, there will be 100 tiny homes, a shared vegetable garden and amphitheater for community events. Each house will come furnished with basic necessities, such as a bed, desk, small fridge, microwave and coffee pot. The homes will be for single homeless individuals who have been living in Midland County for at least a year ...
