From @mmm_water ... 2021 Well Season: Daily Devotional

September 1 - October 31 is Marion Medical Mission Well Season for 2021. The season will include daily devotionals - one for each day the U.S. volunteers are overseas, sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

WORSHIP WITH JOY

"Climb a high mountain, Zion. You’re the preacher of good news. Raise your voice. Make it good and loud, Jerusalem. You’re the preacher of good news. Speak loud and clear. Don’t be timid! Tell the cities of Judah, “Look! Your God!’”
Isaiah 40:9

When my husband, Dan, and I were working with the MMM program in western Malawi in 2016, we happened to arrive in Malawi on a Sunday afternoon. One of our first images of Malawi was seeing groups of families walking along the road in their Sunday best clothes. While in Malawi, we had the privilege of joining them in worship on two Sundays.

On our last weekend in Malawi, my husband Dan was asked to preach at the Kakoma CCAP Church. It was a privilege and I remember us staying up the night before putting together a sermon by flashlight. The church was full on that sunny Sunday morning. We were blessed with the exuberant singing from five of their choirs. After Dan preached, the Elder in charge stated that although the church had no tangible gift to offer him, they did have the gift of a song. The women’s choir sang and danced in such powerful harmony that I imagined I had been transported to a choir of heavenly angels.

Coming from the Presbyterian denomination often called the “frozen chosen,” watching how the Presbyterian people in Malawi worshiped their God impressed me and brought me to tears. Their love of God was not hidden; it was expressed and shared with all. It reminded me of the power and strength of the God we serve and of His message of good news. Many times since that day, I have remembered that worship service and it always opens my heart to the joy of our God. Sing it out everyone! God has given you a song to sing.

Application Question: What is the song that God has given you to sing?

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for giving us a spirit of strength and courage. Help us each day to hear your message and equip us with the voice to share your good news with others and to receive the good news from others. Amen.
