MIDLAND, TEXAS - Although the Christmas season has not officially begun, the Salvation Army already is working to help families have a way to celebrate.

Its Red Kettle program kicked off in Midland on Tuesday and will continue through Dec. 24, Capt. Tex Ellis said. Next week, Angel Trees will go up in both Walmarts and at Midland Park Mall. The paper angels each represent a child who can be adopted for Christmas through the provision of clothing and a gift.

"It's amazing to see the generosity of the public," Ellis said, describing the responses they see to the outreaches.
