• New Jersey native brings lessons of military to ministry

ODESSA, TEXAS - The new pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa will put his experience as a military chaplain and the insights gained from his long tenure at a church in Baltimore, Md., to work as a community pastor in Odessa.

The Rev. Ronnie Allen “Ron” Hankins Sr. preached his first sermon at the 1401 N. Sam Houston Avenue church on Feb. 3 after serving 15 1/2 years at Trinity Presbyterian in Baltimore.

Filling a post that had been vacant for two years, the 56-year-old native of New Brunswick, N.J., said he “will listen to the discussions that are going on and try to make a difference" ...
