During this trying time - with people are isolated and nervous, perhaps even scared of what is to come - Marion Medical Mission (MMM) thought their supporters might enjoy remembering past miracles and connecting with others to pray for everyone affected by the virus, both here and around the world. They are sending a short devotion each Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning, continuing until quarantine restrictions are lifted. These devotions have been written by volunteers and staff members about their experiences with MMM; each is uplifting, positive and beautifuly written. Rejoice in the Lord

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7
As you read this message today, you may find yourself in a situation that makes you very anxious: you may be feeling exhausted as you prepare to hike up a mountain trail and deliver parts to a well in Malawi, or you may be sitting at home wishing your spouse working in remote villages was with you to sort out this difficult problem with your son or daughter, or you may be a faithful Marion Medical Mission supporter waiting in a doctor’s office for a meeting that could bring life-changing news.
No matter who or where we are, life hands us very challenging situations that can overwhelm and frighten us. In this text, the apostle Paul urges us not to lose hope or succumb to fear, in whatever situation we might face. Paul offers us a time-tested method to meet our fears head on and overcome them: Paul urges us to pray! Turn your worries over to God in prayer while thanking God for hearing your prayers. In response, Paul assures us that God will bring peace to your heart and mind through your prayers to, and faith in, Christ.
In itself, prayer will not necessarily solve these specific problems for us. But prayer is power! Jesus promises that prayer gives us the ability to do things. Prayer gives us the ability to accept things, and in accepting, to transform them. Finally, prayer brings the ability to bear things as they are. Prayer gives us the confidence, the courage, and the peace to face any challenge filled with God’s strength.
Application Question: When do you turn to God in prayer? How has prayer helped you accept or transform things in your life?
Prayer: God, please hear my prayers today. I know I can’t handle life’s hard problems on my own. Please, Lord, calm my fears and give me strength to face these challenges today.
