During Time Time of Pandemic
Dear Friends,
Like everyone else, we at Solar Under the Sun have had our lives completely altered by the ongoing pandemic. The congregations we serve or attend are finding other ways of worshiping and of caring for one another. The communities in which we live are facing economic hardship and a lack of activities. And for SUS this means that long-planned activities like Solar School and two trips to Honduras this spring have had to be postponed with the intention of rescheduling. Clearly, Covid19 has not shown any partiality for non-profits or ecumenical outreach organizations.
And while the worldwide battle with Covid19 is of the greatest importance right now, we have every reason to believe that, in time, it will cease to be the threat it is today at which point we at SUS can become fully engaged in our work again. So for now we want you to know we are still here, still planning our next steps. And we still look forward to the day when we can continue to offer training through Solar School and to assist communities and individuals to become safer, more secure, and more economically stable through the use of solar electricity.
In the meantime there are some things you can do for us ...
First, please keep SUS (and our parent organization the Synod of the Sun) in your prayers. Ask God to give us courage and guidance as we look into the future and plan for the day when we can return to work more fully.
Second, please continue to help us share the message of SUS. Tell your friends and fellow church members about us and if they would like more information, ask them to visit our website at solarunderthesun.org.
Third, would you consider tithing your stimulus check from the US government with a contribution to SUS? We know that not everyone will be able to do this, but for those of you who can, you can visit this page on our website to make a donation. Your tax-deductible gift will assist us as we work toward a world without energy poverty, a reality that would greatly lessen pandemics of the future.
Our prayer today is that each of you will be healthy and safe during this time of isolation. We also hope that you will remain mindful of SUS and the work we will return to when the time is right, when we can again work together to bring the love of God to those in need.
In Christ,
Jim Freeman

Shining a Light on Our Supporters:
Second Presbyterian Church, Little Rock
Second Presbyterian Church, Little Rock
Second Presbyterian, Little Rock has been enthusiastically supporting Solar Under the Sun since its inception in 2009, because Second believes strongly in the SUS mission to alleviate energy poverty in partnership with volunteers. To that end, a number of Second members have gone to Solar School trainings in both tracks: Solar One and Solar Two, and have been involved in installation trips to Haiti and Honduras.
Second Presbyterian in Little Rock is passionate about renewable energy, having recently installed 81 solar panels in a parking lot array and two car charging stations.
Second’s Outreach Ministry contributes annually to support SUS so that it can train volunteers to design and install solar power systems with communities that lack reliable electrical power. Several Second members have served on the SUS Board and as Solar School instructors. In addition, members of the Earth Care Sunday School at Second did the SUS Light Bulb Challenge several years ago, using the curriculum’s Bible study and making contributions to SUS.
Let us know what what your church or organization is doing to support the mission and ministry of Solar Under the Sun.
We'd love to Shine a Light on you!
Welcome to our New Board Members!

Solar School is the training program for Solar Under the Sun. It is a hands-on, interactive program designed to equip team leaders with the necessary skills to form meaningful partnerships with communities in the developing world. In collaboration with the local villages, individuals are trained to assess the need for solar power, design, and install a solar power system. These skills are taught in two separate courses that run concurrently during our Solar School. A church or organization should send at least two representatives to Solar School, one for each course.
