Teichert Family Update ... The Call to Go North!

The family of Karl and Jenny Teichert are serving the Lord as missionaries with OC Africa, in South Africa. They moved to Johannesburg in November, 1997 with their four children; Ann, Scott, Stephen and John. Karl serves as the Southern Africa Director of the Southern Africa Regional Team. Their vision is to see a healthy, Bible-based church established in every unreached village and community in South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia and beyond. Their strategy is to partner with key African church leaders to research, train, and mobilize the body of Christ to complete the Great Commission. They are striving to equip local leaders in Southern Africa to reach their nations for Christ and send missionaries into other countries as well.

The Call to Go North!

Dear Family and Friends,

The call to Go North is a challenge to the Church in Southern Africa to go and make disciples in North Africa. There is a great need in the countries of North Africa to bring people to saving faith in Christ and multiply movements of disciple-making churches. Research has revealed that the maturing Church in Southern Africa has the people and resources to respond to this need. This was highlighted and affirmed at the Movement for African National Initiatives (MANI) continental consultaion in Abuja, Nigeria, in 2011.

A collaborative Go North project has been started to further assess the need and opportunities in the North Africa region. This initiative has resulted in focused research and action by various leaders across Africa. We are praising the Lord that one of our long-standing friends and OC Africa ministry partners, Thomas Maphophe, has been selected to represent South Africa in this Go North project! Thomas has served with Karl in Church Planting Alliance of Southern Africa (CPA) and Global Church Planting Alliance (GCPN) for nearly 18 years. We are thrilled for this open door for Thomas to assist in mobilizing believers in Southern Africa to respond to the Go North call!

Thomas had the privilege of being invited to several consultations in North Africa over the past year. He was one of the only delegates from Southern Africa. He heard testimonies from local believers of how difficult it is to share their faith and plant churches in North African countries. During his time there, four participants received threatening emails stating that they would be arrested when they returned home. The other delegates from the consultation raised funds for these brothers to spend time in another country until they could return home safely. The realities of persecution are great!

There are a few from French and English speaking African countries who are already working in the region. They are having success in reaching university students, migrant workers, and other peoples. This is done in homes, schools, and secret places. Thomas was able to listen, provide encouragement, and share his experience. He was also asked to join the disciple-making movements working group.

Here is what Thomas shared that he has learned so far:

God is using ordinary people to reach the Muslim world.
Partnership is important in reaching the Muslims in Africa.
It is important to develop and send young people who are willing to study and work in North Africa.
I have decided to pray and even go to join those who are working in North Africa.
The door is wide open for the gospel to be preached in the Middle East as well. Local Christians are working hard to bring peace to this region. I received an invitation to minister the Word of God there as well.

We are grateful for how God is allowing Thomas to extend his ministry impact in Africa! Please continue to pray for Thomas and the Go North project as they discover practical ways to mobilize Southern Africans to complete the Great Commission in North Africa.

Serving the King with you,

Karl and Jenny
