Partners Blog: "Soccer Sunday"

Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma, and now in the Middle East, as well. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other conflict zones.

Soccer Sunday

Sunday mornings about 5 minutes after breakfast, students start showing up at my house exclaiming, “Teacher, football!” I rush to get changed and we run to the nearest soccer field (By soccer field I mean dirt lot). We try to play 6 v 6 a side if we have enough people, but I don’t think the students are the least concerned with even numbers. They are just happy to be playing football. Before you know it people just start appearing and we have enough for 4 teams. I play for about 2 hours before I have to go crawling home; I’m not sure exactly when the students finish playing. ...
