Invitation to Prayer from Faces of Children ... TODAY

Faces of Children is an ecumenical prayer ministry under the auspices of First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. Their mission is to initiate ministries of prayer for children in churches, communities, and neighborhoods. In doing so, they seek to provide an opportunity for people of God to join together, learn about children and their needs throughout the world, and celebrate Christ's love (especially as it relates to children).

Invitation to Prayer ... TODAY

Hi Friends,

Please join us in lifting up the needs of vulnerable children around the world. Faces Of Children will be meeting at 11:00 (not 11:30) this Wednesday, October 10 - TODAY - for prayer. We are now meeting in the prayer closet at First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, instead of in the gym conference room. The prayer closet is near the library and reception desk of the church. I hope you can join them to pray together for children in our community and around the world!

Warmly,

Carrie

Dear Intercessors,

This week, I'd like to invite you to pray for the following places, situations and children in them ...

INDONESIA // Anger, dismay as Indonesia says search for quake victims to end'

The search for survivors of the Indonesian earthquake is coming to an end, and all missing people are presumed dead. The death toll has reached nearly 1,800 people and will likely continue to climb.      Keep reading ...

Please pray for Indonesian communities who were decimated by this earthquake. As they consider whether or not to rebuild in the same areas, please pray for the people who lost everything and people they loved. Just like in any natural disaster, there are many who are homeless, many who are injured, many who have lost their livelihoods, children who are orphaned, and many who have lost large numbers of their families. Let's pray that as rebuilding begins and relief arrives, the victims feel God draw near.

TEXAS // Hundreds of migrant kids haven't been reunited with their parents.

"It took four months of detention, a $13,000 bond, pressure from a U.S. congressman's office and a network of attorneys to finally reunite Angela with her 16-year-old daughter on Friday. The Central American mother and child were separated at the border in May under the Trump administration's since-overturned "zero tolerance" policy. Yet they're among the lucky ones. Some 350 children separated from their migrant parents this summer still have yet to be reunified, despite a court-ordered July 26 deadline to do it and endless hours of pro bono legal aid. About half of those kids are on track for reunification. "The government has been dragging its feet and fighting tooth and nail at every point since," Angela's attorney, Laura Peña, said of the missed deadline.      Keep reading ...

Please continue to pray for children who haven't been reunified with their parents after the zero-tolerance immigration policy went into effect. Though it no longer dominates our headlines, there are still separated children. Please pray for the agencies, attorneys and non-profit groups who are working to identify and reunify families. A new report concluded that Homeland Security was never prepared to implement zero-tolerance, and as a result untangling the mess is a bit like unscrambling an egg. As children wait to be reunited with someone, pray God protects them in detention and meets all their needs, protecting them from abuse, mistreatment, neglect, and illness.

GREECE // We have found hell': trauma runs deep for children at dire Lesbos camp

"The drawings tell of trauma. Stormy seas dotted with terrified faces. Lifeless bodies of children floating among the waves. And planes dropping bombs, down on to homes and on to people. Eyes that weep blood. The pencil scrawls were made by children who are part of a growing phenomenon in the Moria refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece. All have attempted suicide or serious self-harm since they came to this place.

Approximately 3,000 minors live in the Moria camp, which Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) calls a giant open-air "mental asylum" owing to the overcrowding and dire sanitary conditions. Last Tuesday an adolescent attempted to hang himself from a pole. In August, a 10-year-old boy only just failed to take his own life. The camp, among hills dotted with olive trees a few kilometres from the island's capital town of Mytilene, is home to 9,000 asylum seekers living in a centre designed to hold one third of that number. Migrants live in groups of up to 30 people, crammed into tents or metal containers situated just centimetres apart. Rubbish, scattered everywhere, makes the air almost unbreathable."      Keep reading ...

The situation described in this camp is intolerable and abusive. I don't know what to say besides, "Come, Lord Jesus." Please pray for God to bring justice to these refugees. May God move upon the hearts of leaders so that they cultivate opportunities for these refugees to resettle in safe places and get an education and healthcare. Please pray for the girls' safety in these camps, as violence and rape are often reported.

Praying with you,

Carrie
