MIDLAND, TEXAS - During a normal morning at Casa de Amigos, a woman could be sitting in a classroom preparing for her GED, while her son is in child care playing outside, and her mother is receiving a free health screening before heading to the back room to play pool with her friends.
The organization welcomes clients of all ages and needs and more than 200 clients each day will use the dozens of programs it offers, Executive Director Tonya Eckert said. Casa sees nearly 4,000 individuals a year, she said.
Marking its 55th year, Casa has been through many changes. But since its inception in 1964, the one constant has been its name — which translates as "house of friends" ...
