MIDLAND, TEXAS - James Barnett came to Midland two years ago, when he was 67 years old, because he heard there were plenty of jobs working in the oil fields. He thought he would stay in a motel for a few days until he found a job, but that never happened.

“They don’t say you’re too old,” he said. “They tell you ‘we’ll get back to you,’ but you can tell by the look on their face.” ...

... Now, Barnett sleeps in a tent on the south side of town. As the sun went up Tuesday morning, he ate a breakfast provided by Breaking Bread Soup Kitchen’s mobile food truck...

Barnett is one of nearly 100 homeless individuals who will live in The Field’s Edge, a village planned for southwest Midland ...
