WEST TEXAS - The premise of clothing is simple – to cover up the human body. But to many people, clothing can mean different things, whether it’s an extension of their personality or their uniform for work or school.
At the Sherwood Church of Christ, clothes transcend their inherent meaning to become a form of community outreach.
For nearly three months, members at Sherwood have been building a clothes closet based on clothes closets found at Ector County Independent School District junior highs for parents who cannot afford to buy standard attire uniforms.
The closet, however, is more than stacks of polos and slacks, and ranges in attire for the entire family.
The idea for the clothing ministry began as an in-church ministry for church members in need of Sunday-best clothes but has since expanded to be available to anyone in Odessa who is in need.
