The Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study is a daily devotional with 365 inspiring mission stories that come from next door and all across the globe. It inspires thousands of Presbyterians daily as they uphold the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in intercessory prayer.

PENTECOST SUNDAY / PENTECOST OFFERING - Take a minute to look back on your life. Who all have you lived with? In the earliest parts of our lives, we might live with parents or grandparents or other caring adults. Perhaps siblings. Over the years, we might live with friends and extended family, family of choice or even sometimes with strangers. And sometimes we might find ourselves living alone.

No matter whom we live with now, or whom we have lived with before, God’s vision for the world is that everyone finds a place within God’s kingdom — God’s house. What we celebrate at Pentecost is God’s pouring out of the Holy Spirit so that people of every identity and language can hear a word of welcome into God’s household. All belong in God’s household, and we get to live together, and learn together and celebrate together ...

Daily Devotional from @mmm_water ... How can we serve God today?

During this trying time - with people are isolated and nervous, perhaps even scared of what is to come - Marion Medical Mission (MMM) thought their supporters might enjoy remembering past miracles and connecting with others to pray for everyone affected by the virus, both here and around the world. They are sending a short devotion each Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning, continuing until quarantine restrictions are lifted. These devotions have been written by volunteers and staff members about their experiences with MMM; each is uplifting, positive and beautifuly written. We think these devotions are timeless and may provide comfort and connection for those who read them and pray with them. If you'd like to be on added to that list, email MMM HERE

Sharing the love of Jesus by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in sub-Saharan Africa, Marion Medical Mission is one of our mission partners at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas, and we STRONGLY encourage you to read these devotions to learn more about - and pray for! - their mission.

Where is My Help?
Carol Nussbaumer
Volunteer, Colorado

"I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth." Psalm 121:1-2

Who knew Malawi has so many hills? The mental image of Africa is one of a flat Savannah, but Malawi is on the edge of the Great Rift Valley and it has a lot of "up, up, up, down, down, down." With distressing frequency, MMM wells are located on a hill or across one and down in the next valley. Our personal psalm may begin "I lift my eyes to the hills and I can't possibly do this" and maybe followed by "Lord, help." Exactly so. The psalmist isn't saying the hills provide our help (they really don't care!) but that our help comes from God. God is the one who made this earth, putting hills and valleys and flatlands just where they should be. And He put us just where we should be, too. We can be sure that we are in Malawi because we are supposed to be here at this time and in this place. We may not understand why (after more than 20 years I still question why I am here year after year!) but we can be sure that there is a reason.

Part of the reason, of course, is to help provide protected water for people who do not have it. That is the visible reason for MMM and it is incredibly important. Not just because of the clean water (vital!) but because it allows msungu to go up and down those hills as the women carrying water do; lets them really see and feel poverty; lets them experience the unbelievable faith and joy of these African friends who know, deep inside, the truth: "My help comes from the LORD." Every time I come, I learn again that lesson. I say to those who ask, "I go to Malawi to get my faith renewed." Many of the Africans we meet have no other source of help except God and they rejoice in that help. We also have no other source, but we don't always remember to rejoice. Or say thanks. Being among people who pray easily and constantly, who rejoice with song and dance, who give gifts freely shows me God's love daily. Yewo Chiuta!

Application Question: What mountain (physical or mental) is keeping me from serving God with all my heart, strength and mind today?

Prayer: Almighty God you made all things from the smallest grain of sand to the highest mountain and, because you made it, it is just right. Father, sometimes the mountains look too hard to climb or I fear what may be on the other side. Please enter my mind and heart with the sense of your presence and give the strength to go on.

Dear friends,

We are very sad to tell you all that we lost one of our brothers on May 19. Saw Maung La Htoo was 30 years old and was killed when his musket misfired while he was hunting for food for his family. This was between missions as a way to help his family as his township is now under attack by the Burma Army. This is a tragic accident and loss of a kind friend, husband, father, and teammate, an expert woodsman, and one of our top FBR team leaders ...

1001 NEW WORSHIPING COMMUNITIES - In 2012, the General Assembly made a bold commitment — to create an environment within the denomination that would lead to the flourishing of the existing church and the birth of at least 1,001 new communities of worship and witness. The Presbyterian Mission Agency went to work creating a system of resources to support this call to equip presbyteries, help potential leaders discern God’s call, develop a system of grants, build leadership capacity, and create a network of coaches prepared to accompany a new worshiping community through all the stages of development. Establishing partnerships and collaboration with other North American denominations, the reach of these resources extends far beyond the PC(USA) ...

Help Provide Pandemic Relief

God has proven to be faithful over and over again these last few months. As a result, we've been able to care for orphans, children, pastors and families in India and Nepal during the COVID-19 pandemic. With your help, we'd love to do even more!

The economic impact of this pandemic has been massive in villages where people make less than $2 per day. Many families have gone without an income for months with little or no aid.

Yasodha's (photo above) family of six lives just south of Kathmandu in a hut made of corrugated tin. She works in construction and earns enough to send her four children to school. But since the stay-at-home order she's not been able to work. They quickly burned through their savings in a few weeks and didn't know what to do. When their local church learned they had run out of money and food, the church quickly stepped up to provide rice, lentils and basic supplies. Yasodha shares, "This food has given us great relief in the midst of our difficulty."

Our partners are preparing to share relief with hundreds of families like Yasodha's. For only $30, one family can receive a month's supply of rice, lentils, salt, cooking oil, and soap.

Click here to give a gift of $30, $90, $150, $300 or more to help families in India and Nepal.

Let me know if you have any feedback about the new donation experience, and thank you so much for your support.

Pandemic Prayerbook

If you haven't yet, download your free Pandemic Prayerbook . Assembled by my friend Darcy Wiley, this e-book includes 30 prayers from 20 authors. In these prayers, we are asking God to change the trajectory of the virus, and in the meantime, to change us.

Thank you!

Caring For Our Neighbors During A Pandemic

The current pandemic is having a devastating impact on people and families. Catholic Charities alone has seen a 40% increase in food assistance across its 775 food pantries.

During this time, our agencies have faced critical food shortages with volunteers and staff adjusting and adapting to new ways to distribute food and supplies while maintaining social distancing restrictions.

However, with your support, CCUSA has been able to manage these challenges with success. Because of your gifts CCUSA has been able to:

Distribute 2.5 million pounds of food.
Send $7.3 million in direct funding to local agencies.
Distribute 250,000 masks to keep our volunteers safe.

Your generosity had made it possible for our agencies to reach those in need during these unprecedented times.

Thank you for all of your support ...

From TBM ... "Delivering help, hope and healing"

Commonly known as Texas Baptist Men, TBM empowers Christians just like you to take on the biggest challenges around the globe, changing the world one radical act of service and compassion at a time. Since 1967, TBM volunteers have delivered help, hope and healing to millions of hurting people and raising up the next generation to do likewise. As a result of its service, TBM has helped start and train disaster relief groups in all 50 states, giving birth to the nation's third-largest disaster relief network in the nation.

God called. You responded. Lives are being changed.

When TBM felt called to provide 50,000 meals in two weeks to church food pantries struggling to keep up with the need for food in the midst of COVID-19 unemployment, we knew God would need to work powerfully to for it to happen.

Did He ever.

Through your response to His leading, TBM is in the process of providing 100,000 meals across Texas. TBM already has provided 50,000 meals and is well into the last 50,000. This week, you're providing help and hope to people in Sonora, Abilene and Waco. Almost daily, we're posting photos to Facebook of TBM working in another location.

Thank you for changing lives in the name of Christ. I always tell people TBM has the best supporters and volunteers in the world, and you proved it once again. Because of your prayer and financial support, TBM has been able to deliver help, hope and healing throughout this global pandemic.

Thank you for the conversation during these crucial weeks. I've loved hearing from each of you and seeing how God is moving in hearts across the state. Together, we will remain alert for opportunities to serve. I look forward to seeing you soon.

From Austin Seminary: "Ascension"

President Wardlaw's message ...

Greetings again, friends and supporters of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary!

We are nearing the end of the Spring semester, contemplating saying good-byes to our departing Senior class. This week we had a special Baccalaureate Service online; Dr. Paul K. Hooker preached as we wished our Seniors well. This was followed by faculty and staff in decorated cars forming a parade winding through campus. Our plan is for us all to return to the campus on Wednesday, January 27, 2021—right after the conclusion of our MidWinter Lectures and Alumni/ae Banquet—for an early afternoon Commencement service.

Today, I wish to share with you the video of a Senior Sermon preached recently by Jeannie Corbitt at a virtual “Chapel” service on campus. Her sermon captured so much of the emotion our grads are feeling as they conclude their seminary experience and head for their ministries ahead. Jeannie herself is heading to a pastoral residency position at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. An Arkansan and a graduate of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, Jeannie has been an exceptional student and demonstrates great gifts for ministry. She is a particularly promising preacher, as you will note when you watch this video. Please join me in wishing Jeannie and all of her colleagues in the Class of 2020 God’s richest blessings upon them all!

And, in these difficult moments in our shared life, remember that we’re going to get to the other side—together!
– Ted Wardlaw, President
