Partners Blog: “Dancing Through the Darkness”

Steve and Oddny Gumaer started Partners Relief and Development in response to the needs of refugees and displaced people from Burma, and now in the Middle East, as well. Their mission is to demonstrate, through holistic action, God’s love to children and communities made vulnerable by war in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other conflict zones.

We sat in a room full of daughters some who will one day be mothers, doctors, teachers or leaders, but for today, they are ballerinas. The girls entered the room in their best dresses, some with makeup and others still just waking up. Words were shared of how each girl is beautiful and how each should see others as beautiful too. Destiny declared as each is made and loved by God; that God knows why He gave each one their hand size, their eye color, their story. The story of Esther’s bravery filled the ears of fifteen young Yazidi girls as they listened to the way the queen saved her people. “I am smart, I am strong, I am courageous!” The girls repeated with hand motions to go along ...
