ABILENE, TEXAS - A long-planned community to help homeless people find a place of stability is hopefully on track to hold a grand opening in the fall of next year, said Chad Baker with CitySquare Housing, a Dallas-based anti-poverty nonprofit.

Located at 1350 Cypress St., the property will house 34 people in one-bedroom apartments in the former location of St. Ann Hospital, founded in 1940 by Sisters of the Divine Providence.

The project that will resurrect and expand it, St. Ann’s Place, is being overseen by CitySquare, in conjunction with Abilene’s Highland Church of Christ ...
