Today in the PC-USA Mission Yearbook

The Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study is a daily devotional with 365 inspiring mission stories that come from next door and all across the globe. It inspires thousands of Presbyterians daily as they uphold the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in intercessory prayer. The stories in the 2013 Mission Yearbook were gathered around the question of Jesus to his disciples, “How many loaves have you?” from Mark 6:38. The book is filled with stories of God’s abundance in the face of overwhelming needs and a scarcity of resources.

PRESBYTERY OF LAKE MICHIGAN - How many loaves have you?” The answer is painfully obvious for a presbytery located in a state that has led the nation in grim statistics in recent years: “not enough.” Even so, disciples in congregations across the Presbytery of Lake Michigan exercise faithful and creative stewardship, and the loaves multiply. In 2011 the presbytery was able to create the Deep and Wide Fund to encourage congregations to reach out to their communities in innovative ways. Efforts have included initiating fellowship opportunities following a new contemporary worship service, a jobs program for adults with special needs, a youth ministry initiative, and an English as a Second Language program for African refugees.
